Review: Everything Under a Mushroom

Everything Under a Mushroom
Everything Under a Mushroom by Ruth Krauss
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The perfect classic 1970s era trippy picture book, full of young children involved in ever-expanding dramatic play. New kids from the neighborhood arrive and pretend to be whatever they want to be, and it all gets added to the mix. The small format and extra text (exclamations and conversations between the children under the mushroom) make this an excellent choice for sharing with little ones, who will love to pick out every detail and explore every word. Just as good today — This is how groups of children play together. Very reminiscent of Roxaboxen, except Roxaboxen looks backwards with a wistful heart, and Everything Under a Mushroom is fully Be Here Now.
