Review: Okay for Now

Okay for Now
Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmidt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve looked at The Wednesday Wars so many times but never cracked it open. Something about the cover just didn’t invite my curiosity. I will definitely read it now. Schmidt presents an absolutely believable adolescent boy’s voice: Doug is trying so very hard to be himself in a family that devalues him and a town that assumes the worst about him. You can only go along so long with people openly treating you like a ‘hoodlum in training’ before you believe them and become one.
